href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/rotten-tomatoes\/\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> and being compared to legendary 80s sitcom The Golden Girls.<\/p>\n<p>Starring Hollywood legends <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/susan-sarandon\/\">Susan Sarandon<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/vince-vaughn\/\">Vince Vaughn<\/a>, Nonnas is a <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/comedy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">comedy-<\/a>drama\u00a0film with a charming story,\u00a0directed by Stephen Chbosky.<\/p>\n<p>Filmed in 2023 in various locations in New <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/jersey\/\">Jersey<\/a>, it\u00a0is based on the life of Jody \u2018Joe\u2019 Scaravella, a New Yorker who owned Staten Island\u00a0restaurant Enoteca Maria, where grandmothers (aka nonnas in Italian) from all over the world are invited to work as chefs.<\/p>\n<p>While the women in the movie are This altered the restaurant\u2019s future permanently, as it became known for its \u2018Nonnas of the World\u2019 and began hiring women from all over the globe to add their touch to the menu.<\/p>\n<p>At any given time, two nonnas are working in the kitchen, one as head chef and the other as sous chef, usually from different cultures.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Most of these ladies, their husbands have passed away, the children have grown up, and they\u2019ve moved out,\u2019 Scaravella previously told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/restaurant-grandmas-inspired-movie-nonnas-exclusive-11731188\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">People<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They\u2019re packed with culture, and they need an outlet.
