Gruesome 2022 sci-fi horror film Crimes of the Future has been added to BBC<\/a> iPlayer, allowing viewers to dig into its violent delights for the first time.<\/p>\n

Directed by body horror maestro David Cronenberg, the film is set in a bleak future where human evolution has advanced to the stage where mankind is undergoing a series of bold mutations.<\/p>\n

It stars Viggo Mortensen<\/a> and L\u00e9a Seydoux as a pair of avant-garde performance artists who showcase their abilities by performing grisly surgeries live on stage \u2013 removing his organs for a shocked audience.<\/p>\n

They soon attract the attention of timid bureaucrat Timlin (Kristen Stewart<\/a>), who develops a fascination with their work, proclaiming that \u2018surgery is the new sex.\u2019<\/p>\n

However, not everyone was quite so enthralled with the film\u2019s shocking acts of blood-spurting mutilation \u2013 in the real world, horrified audience members reacted by walking out of the screening<\/a> during its 2022 Cannes Film Festival debut. <\/p>\n

After airing on BBC2 last night, viewers can now see what all the fuss is about for themselves, with the film also being added to iPlayer where it can be streamed in full.<\/p>\n

been favourably reviewed by critics, who contributed to its 80% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Metro.co.uk\u2019s<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>own Anna Smith and Louise Griffin described it as <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/05\/25\/crimes-of-the-future-review-cronenberg-body-horror-is-strangely-fascinating-16705403\/\">\u2018strangely fascinating but disturbing,\u2019<\/a> while praising its \u2018tangible atmosphere and terrific cast.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Mark Kermode described it as \u2018a playful step back rather than an evolutionary leap I mean, I\u2019m sure that we will have walkouts within the first five minutes of the movie. I\u2019m sure of that.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Some people who have seen the film have said that they think the last 20 minutes will be very hard on people, and that there\u2019ll be a lot of walkouts. Some guy said that he almost had a panic attack,\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/24\/legendary-horror-director-originally-turned-controversial-film-sparked-anger-cannes-22777806\/\">the Crash and Videodrome director<\/a> told <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/05\/david-cronenberg-cannes-crimes-of-the-future-1235018996\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And I say, \u201cWell, that would be OK.\u201d But I\u2019m not convinced that that will be a general reaction.
